On a lovely sunny spring May afternoon, on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, I attended my very first Bee Safari at The Bee School in Luss. Our safari group enjoyed an education session on the life cycle of honey bees and found out about the life of a hive, including what bees eat, how they collect nectar and of course their dancing skills (bees tell each other where the best flowers are through a "waggle dance"!). We also learned about the importance of pollinators and the challenges impacting wild bees and other pollinating insects. We sampled some beautiful honey and then for the best bit we put on our bee suits and took an idyllic stroll through the wood to the Bee Hives. It was an amazing experience being so close to the hives and I even took out a frame myself and identified the beautiful Queen Bee.
